AI’s rendering of Afremov’s painting style undergoes significant changes when negating “expressionism”

I attempted to apply the name of contemporary artist Leonid Afremov (1955-2019) to Stable Diffusion. His paintings are characterized by a distinctive style that is immediately recognizable, and caution is necessary regarding copyright issues when Stable Diffusion produces similar artwork. However, when provided with the negative prompt “expressionism,” the style completely changes. This phenomenon has been observed with other artists as well, which will be discussed separately, but here I will provide examples specifically related to Afremov.

The following artworks are reminiscent of Afremov’s style when rendered by Stable Diffusion:

These are generated by providing Afremov’s name as-is or with slight modifications. In particular, the artwork on the left resembles Afremov’s choice of materials and carries a somewhat risky vibe.

Even when using “Afremov” as a negative prompt, some artworks with a slight Afremov-like style can still be obtained:

However, when providing the negative prompt “expressionism” (thus negating expressionism), the artistic style instantly changes:

Nevertheless, even when rejecting expressionism, there are still some artworks that retain elements of Afremov’s style:

Although I initially thought this drastic transformation was unique to Afremov, further experimentation with other artists has revealed that artistic styles undergo significant changes. I am currently exploring and experimenting with this phenomenon.
