Publishing the Hiroshige and Other Chapters of the AI Art Book on Kindle

I previously published two on-demand art books (in Japanese) on Amazon that collected AI artworks, including pieces that were awarded or selected in public exhibitions. From the 11 chapters included in that book, I have now published three chapters individually as Smartphone-optimized Kindle books: The Hiroshige Chapter (¥290), The Hundertwasser Chapter (¥390), and The Various Themes Chapter (¥700).

These works were generated by giving the AI prompts such as names of painters or ukiyo-e artists, but they are not mere imitations; many draw on a wide range of influences. For about a year prior to publication, I exhibited printed versions of these artworks in more than ten public exhibitions. Most of them were accepted, four received awards, and I was also invited to become a Friend Member of the Japan Contemporary Artists Association (現展). These works are conceived as co-creations with AI, and therefore I use “Kanabstracd” as the author name, representing the human–AI art unit. Of the 324 works included in the on-demand book, 16 are in the Hiroshige chapter, 28 in the Hundertwasser chapter, and 70 in the Various Themes chapter.

In producing these artworks, I provided the AI with terms such as the coined word “Kanabstracd,” as well as names of ukiyo-e artists, painters, and concepts such as surrealism, and made effective use of the negative prompt function in Stable Diffusion. This allowed the AI to draw on both painters’ works available online and its own broader internal knowledge, generating diverse images through free “idea-forming.” Each work is accompanied by commentary generated by GPT-5 or GPT-4o (ChatGPT). In these commentaries, GPT points out relationships between the works and those of Van Gogh, Dalí, Chagall, Klimt, Klee, Kandinsky, Miró, Picasso, Kusama, and many other Renaissance, modern, and contemporary artists.
